With a reputation as a perennial national title contender enhanced by two straight National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Tournament appearances, the Columbus State Lady Cougars have once again earned the respect of voters in the 2010 National Junior College poll released on September 8. Columbus State, which opened the 2010 season with an impressive 10-1 record starts the season ranked sixth in the nation.
The Cougars are coming off a 2009 season that included Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and Region XII championships, as well as, a seventh place finish at the NJCAA DII National Tournament. The Cougars are led by first-year coach Kevin Burch, who replaced Scott Nichols following the 2009 season.
Columbus State returns three student athletes while welcoming two transfers and a talented freshman class including local stand outs Melanie Burrell (Highland H.S.), Jennifer Neumeyer (Worthington Kilbourne H.S.), Dani Turner (West Jefferson H.S.) and Cearah Miller (Jonathan Alder H.S.).
